National Zoological Collection of Suriname (NZCS)
Description
The National Zoological Collection of Suriname (NZCS) is a research institute of the
Anton de Kom University of Suriname. Its main task is to make an overview of
the fauna of Suriname. This is accomplished through active collecting during
expeditions to the interior of Suriname and through research. Most research
projects are focussed on the impact of human activities (mining, forestry,
infrastructure, tourism, etc.) on biodiversity. The collections contain over
100,000 invertebrates and approx. 10,000 vertebrates.
