    Description

The Institute of Agrochemistry and Soil Science was established by the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in 1970 in Pushchino. In 1982 the Institute was merged with the Institute of Photosynthesis (founded in 1966), and the united Institute of Soil Science and Photosynthesis (ISSP) was established. In 1999 the ISSP was reorganized and split into the Institute of Physical-Chemical and Biological Problems of Soil Science and the Institute of Basic Problems of Biology. At the moment the Institute includes 7 research laboratories. The permanent research staff of the Institute is 20 Drs.Sci. and more than 47 Ph.Ds. The main objectives: - physico-chemical processes of soil genesis and of transformation of natural and exogenous chemical matters in soil and ecosystems; - the role of soil in biogeochemical cycles of biophile, lithophyle and technogenous elements; - the significance of cryosphere for global circulation of matter and energy, and for the сonservation of genetic resources; - the biodiversity, spatiotemporal organization and functioning of soil at the biosphere as the basis of sustainable development; - the mathematical modelling of soil processes and ecosystems.
