    Description

    Citywide street tree data from the 2005 Street Tree Census, conducted partly by volunteers organized by NYC Parks & Recreation. Trees were inventoried by address, and were collected from 2005-2006. Data collected includes tree species, diameter, condition.

    Purpose

    Quantifying the enormous benefits of New York’s street trees, from pollution reduction to savings on air conditioning bills. Street trees provide almost $122 million in benefits annually to City residents and "are one of the best investments around."

    New York City: Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, Staten IslandThe area was divided into 1,649 zones for recruitment of volunteers to collect the data.
